The Chesley Creek Cabins are located about about 18 miles NW of Charlottesville. The red A star is at the Dyke Post Office. The cabins are a few miles up the mountain from the post office.

The Trading Post...

The Trading Post...
Unless I'm mistaken, until recently this was known as Snow's General Store. In additon to all of the usual that is found in a 7-Eleven, they also serve pizzas and have gas pumps in the back. It also seems to be a place that folks sometimes just hang out.

The Inn has been around since 1840; they have rooms available as well as an award-winning restaurant. Usually have lunch there at least once a visit.

The Chesley Creek Cabins...

Have been coming to the mountains and staying at these cabins for about eight years. Yep, that's quite a few years.
Chuck and Stu own a few hundred acres on the mountain and have a terrific good-sized log cabin there. Fifteen years ago they built their first rental cabin. Since then, they've added three more. Basically, the mountain is fully? wooded just like a forest. Well, not sure what a forest is, exactly, but you know what I mean. Mountains covered with trees.
They hacked out enough trees to put in the cabins.
This is the first cabin I ever stayed in. I had always thought of cabins as crudely built where you have to bring your own sheets and stuff. Well, I'm sure you can see from the photos that this is surely not the case with their cabins.

Main Street and the main street, Stanardsville, Virginia.

Main Street and the main street, Stanardsville, Virginia.
The main downtown area of Stanardsville seems to be about four or five blocks long. This photo is looking west and just down the hill on the right is a small shopping center that has a nice-sized super market. Yes, there are streets perpendictular to Main Street where various government offices are. And, nope, there's not a signal light to be seen.

The Little Shop on Main Street...

When we first visited The Little Shop on Main Street the three good-sized rooms were packed with antiques, photos, paintings, prints, and gifts of every discription all nicely displayed. A few months back the owner, a former real estate agent from Illinois, Lillian Baird, turned the back room into a lunch room. It seems the restaurant was so well received, that Ms. Baird, who has lived in Stanardsville for twelve years and owned The Little Shop for two years, converted another room. As I best understand it, they serve breakfast and lunch and on Sundays have a brunch.
